About the course: With unprecedented challenges facing humanity in the 21 century such as the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI); record income inequality in developed economies and the ever present threat of human-induced climate change, what is the role for businesses in society? What potentially conflicting pressures do they face in their activities and performance? This course examines ethical and societal challenges facing businesses and business managers. It discusses the societal environment within which businesses function, the social, political and legal arrangements and power groups that condition interactions within and outside the marketplace. It also addresses issues of corporate leadership and social responsibility, and how they relate to managers and citizens of the world. A generation since the changes in Central and East Europe, we will closely examine business and society in a post-Transition, EU-context.
